Bison Bushcraft Garron Pack
Taking it's name from the sturdy but small ponies used to pack heavy loads over the Scottish hills, this pack has all the dependable attributes of those tough little horses.
As per the Bison Bushcraft ethical policy, the packs are hand made by British craftsmen from British natural fibre materials. With natural 16oz earth brown canvas for the main body and a storm closure baffle in 7oz waxed cotton. We have also added a “boot” to the pack in the same waxed cotton, so when you stand the pack up in wet grass or mud, it has an extra weatherproof layer for protection.
The 35 litre capacity we feel makes the perfect day pack with the added ability to pack for one or two nights out. We have carefully thought out the design to give flexibility with adjustable side cords to reduce the volume that also double as extra cargo retainers should you want to carry extra kit on the sides or over the top of the pack. Small retaining pockets on the bottom of the sides are there to take the weight of walking poles or similar. There are heavy duty strap retainers on the base of the pack for extra loads and a convenient extra zip closed pocket on the outside of the lid.
On the front of the pack is a canvas sleeve and leather strap and buckle to retain an axe or ice axe in the head down position. We prefer this as with the head up the weight of it pulls the pack away from your shoulders. However if head uppermost is what you prefer there is no reason why you couldn't carry it that way with the lid holding it in place. All the buckles on the pack are solid cast brass for longevity.
The inside of the pack is of one main compartment with a pocket against your back where we have inserted a removable closed cell foam mat for comfort. There is also room in this pocket for a small laptop or tablet type device.
With it's 50mm wide canvas webbing shoulder straps and heavy duty leather adjustable straps all held on firmly with copper rivets, you have a true miniature Clydesdale pony of a pack!
